Jean Segura hit a two-run home run and the Seattle Mariners (3-5) defeated the Los Angeles Angels (4-4) 4-2 Saturday in Peoria, Arizona. Starter Rob Whalen shook off a first-inning solo homer served up to Martin Maldonado and some early trouble to pitch three innings, allowing the one run on three hits with a four strikeouts. Dee Gordon had a pair of hits, including an electrifying triple into the right-field corner. He later scored on a RBI single from Robinson Cano. Braden Bishop continues to play well in his first big league camp for the Mariners. He tripled in the seventh and later scored on a sacrifice fly to make it 3-2 in the seventh. He also made a nice sliding catch in the ninth inning to end the game. – Seattle Times
