Gonzaga sweeps to pair of baseball victories in California

Gonzaga used two solid pitching performances in defeating Milwaukee 4-1 and host Sacramento State 13-3 in California on Sunday.

Daniel Bies gave up just one run on six hits while walking none and striking out eight in the opener with the Bulldogs backing him up with a four-run third inning.

The Bulldogs (5-4) put together five hits, a walk and a sacrifice fly in the third. Ernie Yake had three of Gonzaga’s 11 hits against the Panthers (2-7).

Branson Trube had three of Gonzaga’s 15 hits, including two doubles, in the victory over the host Hornets (4-6). Alek Jacob struck out 11 and gave up just one run on two hits and a walk in seven innings.
