From staff reports

Reports of a man discharging a firearm in the vicinity of the 4100 block of South Altamont Street drew a heavy police presence Friday night.

Shortly before 9 p.m., multiple neighbors reported that a man was shooting a shotgun in the street. Spokane police, Air 1 helicopters, SWAT and the Spokane Fire Department responded to the scene and located the suspect inside his home.

The man told officers he had fired the shots in response to burglary activity in the neighborhood. His account could not be corroborated, said Officer Matt Cowles.

The man was taken into custody on charges of felon in possession of a firearm. No injuries were reported.
