Whitewashing in Hollywood

I am writing this letter to you about an issue that is somewhat dear to my heart: Whitewashing in Hollywood.

Whitewashing is when a role is given to a white actor or actress that is written of historically as a person of color. With the recent release of “Black Panther,” I see it as a great time to broach this subject, as there are many people who are upset that the movie only had “two white people” as part of the main cast.

As a person of color to finally see a movie — even if it is based on a superhero — with such representation, when I am used to seeing roles sometimes stolen, meant the world to me. Just a way to look out and be cautious before you judge without knowing how something affects another life.
