SEATTLE – The Seattle Mariners recalled catcher David Freitas from AAA Tacoma to take the roster spot of Mike Zunino.

Zunino, who sustained a strained left oblique during the Mariners’ workout at Safeco Field on Wednesday, has been placed on the 10-day disabled list retroactive to Thursday.

In 17 spring training games with Seattle this spring, Zunino hit .395 with eight runs, two doubles, five home runs, 12 RBIs and four walks.

Freitas will be available on Saturday against the Cleveland Indians.

Fretias hit .238 in 11 spring training games. He was acquired by Seattle in a waiver claim from the Atlanta Braves in October. He has appeared in six major league games, batting .235 with two runs and two RBIs.
