Area roundup: Idaho’s Sophie Hausmann shoots 72 at NCAA golf regional

Sophie Hausmann fired an even-par 72 Monday at the first round of the NCAA Women’s Golf Madison Regional in Madison, Wisconsin, and sits in a tie for 18th after the first day of competition at University Ridge Golf Course.

Hausmann tied her own school record for the best opening-round score at a regional tournament. Idaho is in 15th place as a team, carding an 18-over 306.

Washington State’s Alivia Brown, an individual qualifier, posted a first-round 76 in a regional at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco. Although tied for 61st place, Brown is five strokes out of the top 10 with 36 holes to play.

Drag racing

Justin Cooper of Medical Lake took home two trophies as he pulled off the double in the NHRA Lucas Oil Series event in Boise over the weekend.

Cooper knocked out Mike Hiatt in Super Comp, running 9.159 seconds at 161.56 mph with Hiatt posting a 9.171, 161.56. In Super Street, Cooper covered the quarter mile in 11.140, 129.79 to Al Quigley’s 11.114, 140.91.
