Remains of Grays Harbor County girl missing since 2009 found in Eastern Washington

Grays Harbor County officials said they’ve identified the remains of a child found in Eastern Washington in September.

Sheriff Rick Scott announced Thursday at a news conference in Montesano that the remains are those of Lindsey Baum, a 10-year-old girl who’d been missing from Grays Harbor County since 2009.

Scott wouldn’t specify where the girl’s remains were found in Eastern Washington, but said it was a remote area frequented by hunters.

“In order to protect the integrity of the investigation, we don’t specify the location until a later date,” he told The Spokesman-Review.

Officials hadn’t announced the discovery of the remains until Thursday. DNA analysis of the remains came back two weeks ago, Scott said. Due to the ongoing investigation, there was a delay in releasing the information, Scott said.

“There’s somebody out there who has information that will bring this case to a complete closure,” Scott said.

Baum was last seen walking from a friend’s house in McCleary – a small town 21 miles west of Olympia – on June 26, 2009.

The Facebook page “Find Lindsey Baum,” which has nearly 9,000 followers, shared video of the news conference Thursday.

“Lindsey’s Mother, Melissa Baum, as well as the relatives and close friends of Lindsey wish to thank everyone for their outpouring of love and support since the onset of Lindsey’s disappearance,” the Facebook page posted Thursday.
