Spokane alt-pop quintet Lavoy releases new EP, music video

Local alt-pop quintet Lavoy has a busy summer ahead of it, with performances already scheduled for Humble Burger in Moscow (May 26), Volume Inlander Music Festival (June 2) and Seattle’s Upstream Music Fest and Summit (June 3).

It’s a good thing then that the band released the “Mazza” EP on May 11.

The EP, which was produced by Casey Bates (Portugal. The Man, INXS, Pierce the Veil, MxPx), features songs both old (“Smile,” “Friend”) and new, like “Chicago.”

The newly released music video for “Chicago” features dancers Mackenzie Fagras and Khay Tanphantourath and was produced by local film company Factory Town.

The band’s connection to the EP’s title was initially inspired by an imagined character based off an acquaintance of the band and aspects of the “Father/Mother figure personality and how that person could (hypothetically) change someone from just one (seemingly) insignificant encounter,” the band wrote in a Facebook post.

But over time the idea evolved to create a “different puzzle” than the one the band anticipated.

“I think that’s the beauty of it,” the band wrote. “You just never know what form this creature will take.”
