Prep baseball playoffs: Post Falls, Lewiston to meet in 5A third-place game

Connor Riddle doubled in a pair in the sixth inning and scored on a passed ball to give Timberline (Boise) (18-10) a late cushion and the Wolves held off the Post Falls (15-13) 10-8 in an Idaho 5A state semifinal at Borah HS on Friday.

The Trojans loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh trailing by four and cut into its deficit but came up short.

Tanner McCliment-Call’s two-run single and Jake Pfennigs’ RBI single gave Post Falls a 3-2 lead after one. Jake Rutherford added a two-run triple in the second and the Trojans led 6-5 after two.

Post Falls plays Lewiston in the state third-place game on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Capital HS.

Timberline returns to the state title game for the second season in a row against Bonneville on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Borah HS.

Bonneville 11, Lewiston 1: Caden Christensen pitched a complete game three-hitter and the Bees (25-4) defeated the Bengals (14-13) in a semifinal at Borah HS.

State 4A

Idaho Falls 12, Sandpoint 2: The Tigers (21-7) eliminated the Bulldogs (12-8) in a consolation game at Melaleuca Field in Idaho Falls.

State 3A

Bonners Ferry 19, Kimberly 12: Chris Sabin slugged a three-run home run and picked up the win in relief and the Badgers (15-5) topped the Bulldogs (17-4) in a semifinal at Treasure Valley CC in Ontario, Oregon.

Bonners Ferry advances to the 3A state championship game against Homedale on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.

The teams entered the seventh inning tied at 11 before Bonners Ferry rallied.

Seth Bateman went 4 for 4 with an RBI and scored twice, while Brady Bateman and Shayne Walker added three RBIs apiece for the Badgers.

Timberlake 9, South Fremont 8: The Tigers (15-8) beat the Cougars (24-4) on a wild pitch in the eighth inning in an consolation game. Timberlake faces Payette (23-4) in the consolation final on Saturday at 10 a.m.
