Spokane County Jail inmate dies in apparent suicide

A Spokane County Jail inmate apparently hanged himself in his cell Saturday and died from his injuries Monday, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Jail staff found the man hanging by a sheet in his cell Saturday afternoon. Life-saving efforts were performed by jail and medical staff before the man was taken to a local hospital, the Sheriff’s Office said.

He was the only person in his cell, according to the Sheriff’s office, which did not release his name.

Detectives are investigating the incident, the second reported suicide by hanging at the Spokane County Jail in less than a year.
