With plenty of support, Daniel Bies leads Gonzaga victory at WCC baseball tournament

The way Daniel Bies was going, Gonzaga did not need its three home runs, its seven-run sixth inning or 13 runs overall.

But it all came together in Gonzaga’s 13-1 victory over Loyola Marymount in Thursday’s opening round of the West Coast Conference baseball tournament in Stockton, California.

Bies pitched seven full innings, allowing four hits, one run and striking out 11. He walked two.

Austin Pinorini, Gunnar Schubert and Branson Trube hit home runs for the Zags. Pinorini went 4 for 5 with 3 RBI. Ernie Yake also drove in three runs.

Second-seeded Gonzaga (30-22) plays top-seeded Pepperdine (30-22) at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
