Area roundup: CC Spokane’s Micaela Kostecka wins women’s race to help Sasquatch claim team cross country title

Community Colleges of Spokane’s Micaela Kostecka won the women’s 5-kilometer race at the Northwest Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships in Lacey, Washington, to help the Sasquatch take home the team title on Saturday.

Kostecka finished the race in 18 minutes, 24.8 seconds, easily beating runner-up Delia Deleon of Treasure Valley by nearly 12 seconds. Jolene Whiteley (18:51.6), Yazmin Estrada (19:00.1) and Bethany Meek (19:08.3) placed third through fifth, respectively, to help the Sasquatch claim the title over second-place Lane 24-48.

CC Spokane’s Ethan Green placed third in the men’s 8K race with a time of 25:56, while teammate Keanu Daos was fourth in 26:03. Lane edged CC Spokane 32-34 for the team title on the strenghth of a 1-2 finish by Andy Muha (25:28) and Shane Henderson (25:39).

Division III West Region

The Whitworth Pirates men tied Caltech for eighth place at the NCAA Division III West Region Championship in Walla Walla.

Joel Mott led the way for the Pirates with a time of 26:00.2 over the 8K race to finish 33rd. Eli Fournier placed 34th for the Whits with a time of 26:01.9. Andy Reischling won the race in 24:49.2 to help Pimona-Pitzer claim the team title.

On the women’s side, Whitworth’s Marissa Mount finished second in the 6K race with a time of 22:14.4. Helen Guo of Pomona-Pitzer won in 21:48.5.

Claremont-Scripps held off runner-up Pomona-Pitzer for the team title. The Whit women placed seventh.
