Krauthammer’s food for thought

This letter is written in response to “Today is a day for all Americans,” (Daniel Krauthammer, Nov. 22).

This article was well worth reading. I cannot say I agreed with Charles Krauthammer on many conclusions. He did use his intellect to explain his thought process and his conclusion. His posthumous book, “The Point of it All,” will likewise probably be well worth the read.

In this article his son states, “We need social bonds that unite us in common cause while maintaining the political structures that guarantee our liberty.” With this we agree but my fear is that the second half of that equation has lost status. This must be balanced to be successful. We should all be thankful for this day and all recognize that the faith in this system – our democracy – is not faith in an organized, established religion but a faith by all Americans in the “The American Civil Religion.”

I did not always read or listen to Mr. Krauthammer but I do miss his opinions. Perhaps his son has a similar intellectual reasoning process, I do not know. Honest differences of opinion can help to re-balance the equation.
