The Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park closed Sept. 29 because of a snowstorm and early-winter weather, according to a news release.

The popular road usually closes on or before the third Monday in October, depending on the weather.

Portions of the Howe Ridge Fire area continue to smoke and are expected to do so into December. Winter weather has allowed the park to lift some fire-related closures, including popular trails like Rocky Point, Johns Lake and the connector from Johns Lake to Avalanche Creek. Other areas remain closed, including North McDonald Road and associated trails, the Inside North Fork Road (not the Outside North Fork Road leading to Polebridge), and the Camas drainage area.

Current trail status information can be found at nps.gov/glac/planyourvisit/conditions.htm.
