One killed in head-on crash near Rathdrum

One person has died in a head-on crash Tuesday afternoon on Highway 53 at the intersection with Chase Road near Rathdrum.

Idaho State Police say a white Buick Lucerne, driven by Brady McPhail, 20, was heading eastbound on Highway 53 when his vehicle swerved into oncoming traffic and slammed head on into a BNSF truck.

McPhail was pronounced dead at the scene. ISP says he was not wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the BNSF truck was transported to Kootenai Medical Center with minor injuries.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
