Prep volleyball roundup: Coeur d’Alene tops Eagle in five sets to earn spot in 5A State tournament

Kelly Horning had 27 kills and nine blocks as Coeur d’Alene defeated Eagle (Boise) in five sets on Saturday night to earn a spot in the 5A State volleyball tournament on Oct. 26-27 at Ridgevue High School in Nampa.

The Vikings will open the tournament against Skyview on Oct. 26 with the winner facing the winner of the Madison/Boise match.

Lake City is also in the 5A draw and will face Rocky Mountain in its opener.

Northeast A

Freeman 3, Cascade (Leavenworth) 0; Freeman 3, Chelan 1: Eva Knight had 10 kills and the Scotties beat the visiting Kodiaks (7-5). In the second match, Jordan Goldsmith had 11 kills and three blocks and as Freeman (16-2) beat the visiting Mountain Goats (14-3).

Northeast 2B

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 3, Asotin 0: Lacey Miller notched 21 assists and two aces, Eliza Galbreath added 12 kills, and the Broncos (5-5) topped the visiting Panthers (6-5).

Adrienne Washington tallied kills, six assists, four aces and four digs for Asotin.

Northeast 1B South

Odessa 3, Republic 0; Odessa 3, Curlew 0: Brenna Carstensen had eight digs with 19 assists as the Odessa swept visiting Republic (2-6). Carstensen followed up a strong performance with another in the second match, netting three aces, five digs and 15 assists as the Tigers (10-3) swept the Cougars (2-7).

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 3, Curlew 0; Almira/Coulee-Hartline 3, Republic 0: Gabbi Isaak had seven kills and 10 aces and the Warriors beat the visiting Cougars (3-8). ACH then swept its second match of the day as Ashley Mitchell had six kills and seven aces to lead the Warriors (14-0) over Republic.

Northeast 1B North

Northport 3, Columbia 0: Hailey Young had 12 kills with four blocks and the Mustangs (5-2) beat the visiting Lions (1-6).
