Show students you care

When I talk to people about Initiative 1639, they sometimes say, “You want to take my guns.” In response, I let them know I support the Second Amendment and do not want their guns. I have plenty of my own.

Initiative 1639 is about responsibility.

My son and daughter were locked down at CVHS during the tragic Freeman shooting. They were scared. They were texting who was shot and that they were worried there might be a shooter at CV too. I don’t know if people understand how terrifying this is for the students, teachers and parents. I could not protect them.

As a mom and gun owner, it makes sense to support Initiative 1639, which will raise the age to purchase assault rifles from 18 to 21 years old. It will also require safety training and a 10-day waiting period. It’s all common-sense and will save lives.

The NRA is fighting this initiative, which should tell you something. The NRA’s priority is to sell guns. My priority is to protect my children, our schools and our community. Please vote yes on I-1639 and show students that we care about them and will protect them.
