College soccer: No. 17 Washington State women shut out Idaho
Maegan O’Neill and Hailey Smith scored their first goals of the season Thursday to power 17th-ranked Washington State to a 3-0 nonconference women’s soccer win over visiting Idaho.
O’Neill, on an assist from Maddy Haro, scored a header goal in the 38th minute. WSU’s Morgan Weaver recorded her third goal of the season in the 71st minue and Smith, with an assist from backup goalkeeper Rachel Thompson, capped the scoring at 76:16.
The Cougars (5-0-0) outshot the Vandals 22-4, including 12-0 in the first half.
Idaho dropped to 2-4-0.
Men
Whitworth 0, Northwest 0 (2OT): The Pirates (0-3-1) and visiting Eagles (1-0-1) of Kirkland, Washington, played to a scoreless tie in a nonconference match.
Whitworth outshot Northwest 13-10, including 4-1 during overtime.
