Cross country roundup: Central Valley’s Ryan Kline and Lewis and Clark’s Wil Smith open season at big invitationals

It was a busy day for area runners as two of the largest invitational’s in the area took place at Shadle Park and Audubon Park. The Highlander Invite and Tracy Walters Invite hosted some of the top teams and runners from around Washington, Idaho and Montana.

The Highlander Invite was won by Johan Correa of Kennewick with a time of 12:31.96. Ryan Kline, the 20th-ranked runner in the country took fourth after clocking in at 12:55.82.

Teammate Evan Peters was just under five seconds behind him, finishing in fifth. Pullman’s Roman Romanyuk placed sixth, ahead of Mead’s top runner (Daniel Jarvis) and CV’s third-top runner, Joseph Nicholls. Cooper Osborn of Mead rounded out the top 10 with a time of 13:31.63.

Tracy Walters Invite

The top-two runners were to be expected, it was just a matter of who would be at the top of the podium. Kamiakin’s Ryan Child was the winner with a time of 15:55. Lewis and Clark’s Wil Smith was five seconds behind the leader.

Jacob Easton of University was fourth, clocking in at 16:27. Lewis and Clark’s second runner, Patrick Korus finished sixth and Silas Chapman of North Central was ninth.

Kamiakin was the team winner with 68 points, followed by Lewis and Clark with 169 and North Central with 177.
