Men’s soccer: Austin Giftopoulos goal gives Gonzaga first win

Austin Giftopoulos scored in the 22nd minute, and Gonzaga picked up its first win of the season, beating Cal-State Bakersfield 1-0 Sunday at Luger Field.

Giftopoulos headed in a corner kick from Mark McEntosh. Ben Willis notched the shutout as the Bulldogs (1-3-2) broke a three-match losing streak. The Roadrunners (2-4) mustered only one shot on goal.

Carroll 1, Whitworth 0: Jose Porras curled in a shot at the hour mark, and the Saints (1-1) edged the Pirates (1-4-1) in Helena.

Alex Pells made nine saves in net to keep Whitworth in the match.
