Cross country roundup: Greater Spokane and Great Northern League kick off league seasons

All 10 Greater Spokane League teams began their 2018 league seasons on Wednesday.

Central Valley, Mead, Rogers and Shadle Park ran at CV.

Evan Peters (16:19.30) led the Bears to a meet sweep.

Mead’s Alexis Parker, a freshman, won with a time of 20:41.54.

Comstock Park played host to Ferris, North Central and University where the Titans’ Jacob Easton (15:18.34) was the top runner.

North Central’s Nathan Carter (15:26.90) led the Indians to a sweep.

Marie Taylor led the girls, running a 19:11:11 for North Central.

The third race of the GSL’s opening day was at the Finch Arboretum. Gonzaga Prep, Lewis and Clark and Mt. Spokane went head to head to head. Wil Smith led all runners with a time of 16:58.71, leading the Tigers to a sweep.

LC’s Naomi Butler took first in the girls’ race, running a 20:12.43.

Great Northern League

The GNL was in dual mode as West Valley took on Cheney and East Valley set its sight on Pullman.

Boys: Cheney 25, West Valley 34.

Girls: West Valley 20, Cheney 37.
