Valleyfest continues tradition of celebrating arts, education, science

If you’re in Spokane Valley Friday night, more specifically on Sprague Avenue, don’t be surprised to see beds, pushed by people in costumes, flying down the street.

It’s all part of the seventh annual Lion Club Bed Races, which kicks off Valleyfest 2018.

Since 1990, Valleyfest has celebrated visual and performing arts, education, science and recreation through three days of family-friendly activities and performances.

This year, Valleyfest takes places Friday through Sunday at CenterPlace Regional Event Center, Mirabeau Point Park and Plantes Ferry Sports Complex.

The Hearts of Gold parade follows the bed races at 7 p.m. with parade grand marshal Hutton Settlement Children’s Home.

Sprague Avenue will be closed to cars between University and Pines roads beginning at 6 p.m. Friday.

Saturday features a full day of activities including a pancake breakfast, the Step UP for Down Syndrome Walk, a NASA exhibit, Fishing at the Falls, a car show, a Robotics, Drones and STEM showcase, live music, a country dance competition, a variety of booths and a screening of “The Incredibles.”

The fun continues on Sunday with TotFest, the NASA exhibit, live music, a family bike ride, and a 5K/10K Run, duathlon and triathlon.
