Sam Wezniak drove in three runs with a pair of home runs to power the California Golden Bears (17-11, 5-4) to a 9-5 victory over the Washington State Cougars (7-23, 0-9) on Sunday and a sweep of the three-game Pac-12 Conference series in Berkeley, California.
Cal roughed up WSU starter Hayden Rosenkrantz (2-3), who allowed five runs on six hits and three walks, pitching 3 1/3 innings.
Collin Montez hit a solo home run for the Cougars and Tyson Guerrero added two hits, an RBI and a run scored.
WSU returns to action on Tuesday when they host the Seattle Redhawks in nonconference play. The Cougars host the Oregon Ducks in a three-game Pac-12 series beginning Friday.
Arizona 7, Washington 4: Justin Wylie had a two-run double and Matthew Dyer had four singles, driving in a run and scoring twice to help the Wildcats (16-14, 5-7) hand the Huskies (14-12, 5-7) their seventh straight loss in a sweep of the three-game Pac-12 Conference series in Tucson.
Arizona handed Pac-12 strikeout leader Josh Burgmann (3-1) his first loss of the season. Burgmann surrendered six runs – five earned – on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings. He fanned three and now has 62 on the season.
Nick Kahle had a solo home run for the Huskies, who have lost seven straight games.
Whitworth 15, Puget Sound 8: The first-place Pirates (17-11, 14-4) fell behind 5-0 before batting around in the third and fourth innings en route to a victory over the visiting Loggers (9-21, 8-10) and a sweep of the three-game Northwest Conference series.
Nicholas Nerud, Jaxsen Sweum and Cody Simmons all had two hits and two RBIs for Whitworth. Tyler Bailey had two hits, including a solo home run.
Connor Grytdal (2-2) picked up the win, pitching 4 1/3 innings in relief of starter Ryan Kingma and allowing two runs on six hits and two walks.
