Mead boys and girls win at Mooberry Relays

Jordyn Hutchinson won the hammer toss and shot put as Mead captured both team titles at the Mooberry Relays hosted by Rogers High School on Saturday.

The girls scored 97 points and the boys 96.5 as the Panthers won five total events.

Hutchinson threw 89 feet, 10 inches in hammer, her personal record.

She also PR’d in shot put with a throw of 41-9 1/2, which beat her sister Emily by 1 1/2 feet.

Hutchinson also took second in discus.

Mead’s Jordan Mattox won javelin with a throw of 111-9.

Lewis and Clark was second with 79 points for the girls team title.

The Tigers were strong in the running events, with their three wins coming from track events.

Samiah Kuntz was involved in all three, winning the 100 meter with a time of 12.56 seconds.

The 4x100 race was won by Kuntz, Sativa Rogers, Lillian Ellis and Lauren Krauter, as their time of 51.36 narrowly beat Ferris’ 51.67.

Kuntz’s last win came in the 4x400 relay, but this time it was Pullman pushing the Tigers. LC won it with a time of 4:18.56.

On the boys side, Mead’s Nathan Puletasi was first in the shot put with a throw of 49-11.

Eddy Vasilyev cleared 14-6 in the pole vault, securing Mead’s final individual victory.

The Pullman boys finished second, edging out Mt. Spokane 75.5 to 71.

Pullman’s Tyrus Thomas won the 100 hurdles in 15.42, just .05 seconds quicker than Lakeside’s Noah Cherrington.

Pullman’s 1,600 sprint medley relay team – Lachlan Smith, Casey Gleason, Patrick Nairimo, Eliason Kabasenche – finished first in 3:44.59.

Coeur d’Alene’s Emily Bronson took first place in girls discus with a throw of 135-10 in Walla Walla.

Her throw broke her personal record, as well as the meet record previously held by Central Valley’s Samara Nelson, who threw 134-0 last year.
