Support police accountability

As the former chair of Spokane City Council Public Safety Committee, I was very disturbed to hear of Republican mayoral candidate Nadine Woodward’s endorsement by the Police Guild and her comments dismissing the police ombudsman. Ben Stuckart is the only candidate for mayor who has taken hard votes to add more money and staff to the Police Department and uphold strong police accountability. This makes him the best choice for mayor.

To Ms. Woodward: many people have fought for years, and some have died, to create the Office of Police Ombudsman. Prove that you are not subservient to the Police Guild and join Ben Stuckart in calling for the release of the Ellerman arrest video before the election, not after. The citizens of Spokane deserve a candidate with honesty and backbone and they deserve to know the truth.
