S-R outdoor writing contest (for adults, this time) winners announced

For the past 32 years, the Spokesman-Review has run a popular high school outdoor writing contest. This year we decided to invite the adults.

Get Lit!, Out There Outdoors and The Spokesman-Review hosted a outdoor/environmental prose writing contest this spring. We received 18 submissions and the S-R selected one winner and one runner up, as did Out There Outdoors.

Winner Kathryn Robinson’s story “The Vanishing Lake” is a beautiful meditation on seasonal lakes in Washington’s Channeled Scablands. It’s as informative as it is beautifully written.

Runner-up Corey Aaron writes powerfully about how the natural world and a wild landscape can provide some reprieve from depression and anxiety in his piece “Abloom.”
