Pedestrian hit by car in Spokane Valley Thursday dies at hospital

From staff reports

A 66-year-old woman died in the hospital after she was struck by a car in Spokane Valley on Thursday afternoon, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.

A 21-year-old woman was driving west on East Sprague Avenue at about 4:45 p.m. when she hit a pedestrian attempting to cross the road at North Perrine Road, a news release said.

The Spokane Valley Fire Department treated the pedestrian and took her to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. She later was pronounced dead, according to the news release.

The pedestrian was wearing dark clothing and there was no crosswalk at the location, according to the news release. Visibility was decreased due to darkness and rain, and the roadway was wet, investigators determined.

The driver cooperated with the investigation and sheriff’s deputies determined she was not impaired or driving recklessly, according to the news release.

The woman who died has not been identified.
