Does Trump really believe in Christian values?

I think Mr. Long missed the point of Ms. Simmons’ article (“Trump supports my values,” Dec. 13).

She states “It’s about character.” Mr. Long states he supports the president because Mr. Trump supports his Christian values: religious freedom, pro-life, pro-Israel, pro military and law enforcement, etc.

To be sure, there are some values/policies that should earn universal support. Mr. Long believes these policies demonstrate Trump’s understanding of Scripture, yet literally five columns to the left in the same Spokesman edition, Mr. Jamison Hill, who is disabled, earning $2,000 a month and dependent on SNAP benefits, writes that he worries new Trump administration rules may disqualify him from food stamps unless he sells his car and electric wheel chair.

Character counts! Character defines what a person truly believes and how he/she will act under stress and non-scripted situations. Is it possible Trump’s true character is defined by what he says and tweets? Is it possible that, if it becomes politically convenient, President Trump will dump those “Christian” values just as he publicly dumps on anybody he doesn’t like? Do you really think President Trump lives his life according to the Beatitudes taught by Jesus at the Sermon on the Mount, or that he has even heard of the Beatitudes?

Ms. Simmons states she doesn’t know what is in Trump’s heart, but I’m pretty sure what isn’t. Jesus also teaches us the second greatest commandment is to love your neighbor as your self. If only the president would practice this commandment because no one loves himself more than Trump!
