Northbound lanes of Maple Street Bridge closed after vehicle crashes, lands on its top

Emergency crews are working to reopen the northbound lanes of the Maple Street Bridge after a vehicle crashed and landed on its top.

John O’Brien, spokesman for the Spokane Police Department, said the single-vehicle collision happened at around 11 a.m. Pictures of the scene posted online appear to show the vehicle flipped over on the south side of the bridge, near the northbound Riverside Avenue merge point.

O’Brien said one lane was re-opened after about 20 minutes. A tow truck was on its way by 11:20 a.m.

Police scanner traffic suggested the collision was non-injury. O’Brien didn’t immediately have information on what caused the collision, though weather could be a factor.

No other vehicles were involved.

The car was flipped back over by 11:30 a.m.
