Chiefs rally comes up short in 7-5 loss to Americans

KENNEWICK – Kyle Olson scored three goals, including an empty-netter with 4 seconds left, and the Tri-City Americans held off a Spokane rally to beat the Chiefs 7-5 Saturday at Toyota Center.

The Americans blitzed the Chiefs early, building a 5-0 lead 3:03 into the second period, including short-handed goals from Olson and Parker AuCoin. Spokane goalie Bailey Brkin was pulled after allowing five goals on 13 shots.

The Chiefs responded with goals from Nolan Reid and Michael King. After Sasha Mutala made it 6-2 early in the third, Ethan McIndoe scored and Adam Beckman netted twice to pull Spokane within one with 5 minutes left.

Spokane outshot Tri-City 50-22. The Americans scored on their only two shots in the third period.

Beckman finished with two goals and an assist. Eli Zummack set up Beckman’s second to push his assist streak to 11 games.

The Chiefs fell to 0-4 at Tri-City this season.
