College baseball: Saint Mary’s rallies past Washington State

Joe Vranesh went 4 for 6 with five RBIs and Saint Mary’s used a seven-run fourth inning to defeat Washington State 14-8 Saturday in nonconference play in Moraga, California.

Kyle Manzardo homered and singled in another run as the Cougars (0-2) built a 5-1 lead before the Gaels (2-0) stormed back and took the lead on Vranesh’s three-run double.

Ryan Novis added three RBIs for Saint Mary’s.

Manzardo, Dillon Plew and Collin Montez each drove in two for WSU.

The second scheduled game was suspended by darkness.

Oregon State 9, Gonzaga 3: Beau Philip and Alex McGarry each went 3 for 4 with three RBIs, and the Beavers (2-0) beat the Bulldogs (0-2) in the Surprise (Arizona) College Baseball Classic.

Bryce Fehmel (1-0) limited Gonzaga to one hit over eight innings. Ryan Sullivan hit his first home run for the Zags in the second inning, and Slade Heggen drove in two.
