Area roundup: Grace Kirscher leads Eagles women past Southern Utah

Sandpoint’s Grace Kirscher scored 16 points and Violet Kapri Morrow added 12 points and 10 rebounds Thursday night as Eastern Washington defeated Southern Utah 80-66 in Cheney.

Jess McDowell-White scored 14 points, Andie Easley 11 and Uriah Howard 10 for the Eagles (8-16, 7-8 Big Sky). Harley Hansen and Ashley Larsen scored 17 apiece for the T-birds (6-19, 3-13).

Idaho 90, Northern Arizona 72: Mikayla Ferenz hit 14 of 22 shots from the field and poured in 39 points and Taylor Pierce hit 6 of 12 from 3-point range, adding 20, as the first-place Vandals (15-9, 12-3) routed the Lumberjacks (9-16, 5-11) in Moscow, Idaho.

Ferenz, who hit 4 of 9 from beyond the arc, has 2,214 career points, 21 shy of Natalie Doma’s Big Sky record for Idaho State.

Baseball

WSU 10, Santa Clara 0: Brandon White and Owen Leonard combined for a one-hitter and the Cougars capitalized on eight walks to shut out the Broncos in the first of a four-game nonconference series in Santa Clara, California.

Washington State, which won its first game after dropping its first four at Saint Mary’s, put Santa Clara (0-4) away with a six-run fourth. White struck out nine in 6 1/3 innings, while Leonard added six Ks the rest of the way.

WSU’s Collin Montez went 3 for 5 with a double and triple. He drove in one run and scored another. Dillon Plew and Andres Alvarez also doubled for the Cougars.
