College baseball: WSU rallies for win; Whitworth loses
Freshmen Kyle Manzardo and Kodie Kolden combined for seven hits and six RBIs and Washington State (2-6) rallied for a 10-6 victory over Santa Clara (2-5) in a nonconference game on Sunday in Santa Clara, California.
Manzardo had four hits and Kolden three and each drove in three runs. Manzardo had a RBI single, Rob Teel a two-run hit and Kolden a two-run double in a sixth-run eighth to give the Cougars a 10-5 lead.
Kolden and Manzardo each hit two doubles.
Davis Baillie (1-1), the fifth of seven WSU pitchers, got the win.
California Lutheran 6, Whitworth 2: Tanner Wright had three hits and scored three runs to lead the Kingsmen (6-2) to a victory over the Pirates (3-7) in a nonconference game in Thousand Oaks, California.
Tyler Bailey and Taylor Poffenroth had two hits each for Whitworth. Austin Rice (0-1) started on the mound for the Pirates and took the loss after allowing three runs on seven hits in five innings.
