One person hospitalized, suspect in custody after north Spokane shooting

One person has been hospitalized and two others were detained after a shooting Wednesday in north Spokane.
The shooting occurred on the 6500 block of Standard Street, according to officer John O’Brien, spokesman for the Spokane Police Department. Reports of the shooting reached police just after 1 p.m. A K-9 unit was nearby and responded quickly, detaining two people.
O’Brien said one of the two people taken into custody was speaking with detectives. It appeared that the detainee in question knew the victim, according to police.
It is unknown at this time whether the victim sustained life-threatening injuries. The shooting appeared to have taken place inside the Standard 20 Apartments, located at the intersection of Standard Street and Holyoke Avenue.
Officers had blocked off several of the apartments with police tape and were waiting Wednesday afternoon for Major Crimes detectives to obtain search warrants before processing the scene, police officer Kyle Yrigollen said.
“We have who we believe to be the suspect in custody,” Yrigollen said.
