Area women’s basketball: Hristova’s double-double paces WSU; Utah beats Huskies

Borislava Hristova posted her third double-double of the season with 23 points and 10 rebounds and Washington State overwhelmed Colorado 74-48 on Sunday in Pullman.

The victory snapped a three-game conference losing streak as Hristova posted her ninth 20-point game this season.

The Cougars (7-9, 2-3 Pac-12) took control in the decisive second quarter with an 11-0 run to build a 23-13 lead. Chanelle Molina started the run with a layup and finished it with a 3-pointer with Shir Levy adding a jump shot and a layup in between.

Washington State led 28-21 at halftime, extended the margin to 45-31 after three and then put Colorado in the rearview mirror scoring 29 in the fourth on 12-of-14 shooting (85.7 percent) including 4 of 5 from beyond the 3-point arc.

Molina finished with 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting, grabbed seven rebounds and tallied six assists. Maria Kostourkova scored 12 shooting 6 of 9 from the field and grabbed eight rebounds.

Quinessa Caylao-Do led Colorado (10-6, 0-5) with 18 points.

Utah 58, Washington 43: Megan Huff and Dre’Una Edwards both posted double-doubles to lead the Utes past the Huskies in Seattle.

Utah (15-1, 4-1 Pac-12) has won three straight and Washington (8-9, 1-4) has dropped six of seven.

Huff scored 25 points, shooting 12 of 19 from the field, and gathered 12 rebounds. Edwards finished with 14 points and missed just 2 of 9 shots and had 10 rebounds. The duo grabbed two-thirds of Utah’s 33 rebounds.

T.T. Watkins scored the first basket of the game to give the Huskies their only lead as Edwards made back-to-back shots to start a 15-2 run. The Utes led 19-12 after the first quarter and 39-24 at intermission. Despite making just 1 of 17 from 3-point range, and 5 of 10 from the free-throw line, the Utes finished 26-of-51 shooting overall.

Amber Melgoza scored 14 points for the Huskies.
