Defensive coordinator Jeff Schmedding leaves Eastern Washington to join staff at Boise State
UPDATED: Fri., Jan. 18, 2019

After helping Eastern Washington reach the Football Championship Subdivision national title game earlier this month, defensive coordinator Jeff Schmedding is making the move up to the Football Bowl Subdivision.
Schmedding, a University High graduate, has been hired as the outside linebackers coach and co-special teams coordinator at Boise State, the school announced Friday.
Schmedding began his career at EWU as a graduate assistant (2004-06) before being promoted to a full-time role as safeties coach in 2007. He’s been the Eagles’ defensive coordinator since 2015.
Under Schmedding, EWU’s defense was first in the FCS in touchdowns (six) and second in forced turnovers (36) last season.
