Billings Central Head Coach Talks About Win Over Laurel

The Laurel-Billings Central battle is one of the longest running rivalries in Montana. On Saturday, the boys basketball teams met head to head at Laurel High School for the Class A clash. The first half was evenly split but it ended with a Rams’ 13 point lead. The second half didn’t get much better for Locomotives. In the first five and a half minutes of the third quarter, Laurel only scored 3 points. Billings Central went on to romp the Locos 61-46. Head coach for the Rams, Jim Stergar explained that while the win over Laurel was great, it does not mean much when it comes to divisionals and the state tournament. “We could lose every game and go into tournament time and play our best and do well then and vice versa. You can win every game and go into tournament time and not do well. What we’re after is just getting better every week. It doesn’t matter if someone has beaten us in the past and we’re playing them again. This game doesn’t matter either. You win by 20 or you lose by 2, you’ve got to get better and move forward towards divisional time and tournament time.”
