Gonzaga’s Casey Legumina was selected in the eighth round by the Minnesota Twins. Legumina, a 6-foot-2 right-handed pitcher from Chandler, Arizona, returned to starting this past season after working as the Zags closer in 2018.

He made four starts this year, none after March 8, when he left after 73 pitches. In 24 innings, Legumina went 2-0 and allowed four earned runs (1.50 ERA) on 14 hits and eight walks with 29 strikeouts. He saw a noticeable jump in velocity this season, which spiked draft interest.

In 2018, he went 3-3 with a program-record 13 saves, 2.77 ERA, 52 strikeouts and seven walks over 48 2/3 innings, earning first-team All-WCC honors.

Legumina was selected previously by the Cleveland Indians in the 35th round of the 2018 draft.

Two Washington high schoolers were selected in the first two rounds: center fielder Corbin Carroll (Lakeside-Seattle) went No. 16 overall to the Arizona Diamondbacks and right fielder Joshua Mears (Federal Way) was taken No. 48 overall by the San Diego Padres.

Two Washington Huskies were taken during the second day: catcher Nick Kahle was picked in the fourth round by the Milwaukee Brewers and right-handed pitcher Josh Burgman was selected in the fifth by the Chicago Cubs.
