No Offseason for Helena’s Zach Spiroff

Jeremy Schnell SWX
One of the Helena Senators’ top baseball players is not just that. Zach Spiroff is a team leader in three different sports in the capital. Senators’ outfielder Zach Spiroff took a break from playing baseball this past weekend to stand out on the football field. The two-time all-state selection won defensive MVP and scored a 70-yard punt return touchdown in the Badlands Bowl. “That was pretty exciting I was thinking about doing something special all week and hopefully make a big impact play in an all-star game like that,” said Zach Spiroff. Making big plays is Zach’s specialty. He is a three-sport athlete and is looking forward to bringing his abilities to the next level for Carroll College football. Senators head coach Jon Burnett said he loves the dedication that Zach shows on the diamond. “This is the in season sport so when he’s out here he’s giving everything he has to baseball. I know he is doing all of the Carroll College workouts too so he’s stretched pretty thin but he gives us everything he has when he is here,” said Coach Burnett. Two-sport teammate Grady Koenig said he’s known Zach since second grade. Koenig said they will stay in touch even after Grady leaves for Montana Tech to play football in the fall. “Obviously we are going to stay friends but when it comes down to it we are going to compete. We are good friends because we both give it everything we’ve got,” said Koenig. “It’ll be a big transition to not be playing baseball anymore hopefully I can find a way to still stay involved with it, but it’s also sweet at the same time to think about all of the great times I’ve had playing this sport and how blessed I am to have played with all of these different teammates and all of these coaches and it’s been such a great experience to play for this program,” said Spiroff.
