WCC Tournament: Darryl Polk Jr. helps Pepperdine past Pacific in opener

LAS VEGAS – Darryl Polk Jr. came off the bench to score 15 points to lead Pepperdine to a 61-53 win over Pacific in the first round of the West Coast Conference Tournament on Thursday night at the Orleans Arena.

Eighth-seeded Pepperdine (14-17) advances to play Loyola Marymount on Friday.

Colbey Ross had 14 points for Pepperdine. Jade Smith added 10 points. Victor Ohia Obioha had four blocks for Pepperdine.

Jeremiah Bailey scored a season-high 22 points and had 11 rebounds for the ninth-seeded Tigers (14-18). Roberto Gallinat added 13 points. Lafayette Dorsey had 10 points.

Other first-round games:

San Diego 67, Portland 47: Isaiah Pineiro had 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead the seventh-seeded Toreros past the No. 10-seed Pilots.

All five starters scored in double figures for San Diego (19-13), which faces sixth seeded Santa Clara on Friday.

JoJo Walker paced Portland (7-25) with 13 points.

Women

San Francisco 76, Portland 69: Marianna Klavina scored 22 points and Abby Rathbun added a double-double as the ninth-seeded Dons topped the eighth-seeded Pilots.

Rathbun, a freshman from Moses Lake, scored 17 points and added 12 assists for San Francisco (8-23). Lucija Kostic added 18 points for the Dons.

Julie Spencer paced Portland (13-18) with 22 points, while Haylee Andrews added 18.

San Francisco advances to play fifth-seeded Loyola Marymount on Friday

Santa Clara 63, San Diego 59: Tia Hay scored 15 points as the seventh-seeded Broncos used a 12-0 run that spanned the third and fourth quarters to eliminate the 10th-seeded Toreros.

Lexie Pritchard added 14 points off the bench for Santa Clara (14-16), while Ashlyn Herlihy grabbed 10 rebounds.

Patricia Brossmann paced San Diego (9-21) with 14 points.

Santa Clara faces sixth-seeded Pacific on Friday.
