College baseball: Gonzaga holds off No. 20 Texas A&M for 6-4 win

Austin Pinorini and Josh Bristyan each drove in two runs as Gonzaga held off a rally by No. 20 Texas A&M to win 6-4 Friday in College Station, Texas.

Gonzaga (5-6) jumped off to a quick start, as Troy Johnston and Bristyan notched RBI singles in the first inning.

Bristyan added a run-scoring single in the third. In the sixth, Ernie Yake doubled in a run before Pinorini plated two with another double to push the lead to 6-0.

Texas A&M (13-3) rallied with two runs each in the sixth and eighth innings before Alek Jacob slammed the door in the ninth to earn his third save.

Casey Legumina (2-0) worked five shutout innings, allowing only four hits and striking out five.

The Zags battered Aggies starter John Doxakis (3-1), who had allowed only one earned run this season but surrendered three runs on seven hits in four innings.

Washington State 3, Cal State Northridge 1: Collin Montez and Rob Teel collected back-to-back RBI singles in a three-run third inning, and the Cougars (5-7) beat the Matadors (7-7) at Bailey-Brayton Field.

The Cougars loaded the bases in the third with one out. Kyle Manzardo’s sacrifice fly brought in Dillon Plew. Montez followed by lining a single to left to score Garrett Gouldsmith, and Teel completed the rally by singling in Andres Anvarez.

Brandon White (2-0) tossed five innings, allowing one run and three hits. Zane Mills struck out five while working the seventh and eighth innings, and Davis Baillie earned his second save.

Plew and Teel finished with two hits apiece. Plew extended his on-base streak to 15 games dating to last season.

Kyle Barrett’s RBI double in the fourth was the only offense for the Matadors. Walker Armstrong (0-2) took the loss despite throwing a complete game.
