WCC Tournament: Colbey Ross, Pepperdine men upset Loyola Marymount

LAS VEGAS – Colbey Ross scored 20 points and eighth-seeded Pepperdine upset fifth-seeded Loyola Marymount 68-65 in the second round of the WCC Tournament on Friday at the Orleans Arena.
Jade’ Smith added 16 points for the Waves (15-17), while Kessler Edwards had 15 points and six rebounds.
Mattias Markusson paced Lions (20-11) with 20 points and six rebounds.
Pepperdine advances to face fourth-seeded San Francisco on Saturday, with the winner moving on to face top-seeded Gonzaga in a Monday semifinal.
Other second-round games:
San Diego 62, Santa Clara 45: Isaiah Wright scored 23 points and dished out eight assists as the seventh-seeded Toreros eliminated the sixth-seeded Broncos.
Isaiah Pineiro added 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Toreros (20-13), who face third-seeded BYU on Saturday.
Trey Wertz led Santa Clara (16-15) with 12 points.
Women
Loyola Marymount 66, San Francisco 45: Jasmine Jones had a double-double of 15 points and 14 rebounds as the fifth-seeded Lions eliminated the ninth-seeded Dons.
Bree Alford (13 points), Cierra Belvin (12) and Gabby Green (11) also finished in double figures for Loyola Marymount (18-13). The Lions face fourth-seeded Saint Mary’s on Saturday, with the winner moving on to face top-seeded Gonzaga in a Monday semifinal.
Nia Alexander paced San Francisco (7-24) with 11 points.
Pacific 76, Santa Clara 60: Valerie Higgins scored 18 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and had four steals as the sixth-seeded Tigers (18-11) used a strong second half to eliminate the seventh-seeded Broncos (14-17).
Brooklyn McDavid added 16 points for Pacific, which takes on third-seeded Pepperdine on Saturday.
