From staff reports

A SWAT team was called to a north Spokane residence Tuesday to help defuse a domestic situation in which a man was arrested for allegedly assaulting his roommate while her young child was in the house.

Spokane County Sheriff’s deputies responded at 6 a.m. to a report of domestic violence at a house on the 3900 block of East Center Road, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

Dana A. Keener, 43, allegedly assaulted his roommate and held her against her will while holding a knife, according to the release, which said he turned off the lights and didn’t respond to deputies after they arrived

A SWAT team and hostage negotiator arrived and removed Keener from the house with no injuries.

The woman was taken to the hospital. Her child, who was also in the house, was uninjured, the news release stated.

Keener was arrested and is being held on charges of assault and kidnapping.
