Four teenagers and a 20-year-old man were arrested Monday afternoon for allegedly rioting in downtown Spokane and assaulting two people with a skateboard and brass knuckles.

Police responded shortly before 4 p.m. to several reports of a fight near Wall Street and Second Avenue, according to a news release.

One witness who called 911 also captured video of the “primary aggressors” with her cellphone and helped officers identify the five suspects.

Cpl. Teresa Fuller, a spokeswoman for the police department, credited that witness for providing key evidence.

“These are kids that we are pretty familiar with and have been causing problems for us for a while,” Fuller said. “We’d like to get some charges that will stick for these kids and hold them accountable.”

The teenage suspects include three girls and one boy whose names were not released. The 20-year-old was identified as Jesse K. Hager.

Witnesses reported one of the male suspects had punched someone with brass knuckles and the other had struck someone with a skateboard.

Police said the boy suspect was taken into custody on charges of rioting and marijuana possession, both felonies, as well as misdemeanor possession of dangerous weapons, including the brass knuckles and a spring-blade knife.

One of the girls was booked on a charge of felony marijuana possession and misdemeanor charges of rioting, harassment and drug possession. The other girls were jailed for misdemeanor rioting.

Hager remained in jail Tuesday on misdemeanor charges of criminal mischief and marijuana possession.

Police still were searching Tuesday for the two alleged victims – one male and one female – who fled the scene before officers arrived. Police asked that anyone with knowledge of the incident call Crime Check at (509) 456-2233.
