Medical examiner identifies man killed by deputy in Spokane Valley

The man killed by a Spokane County sheriff’s deputy on Saturday was 25-year-old Ethan A. Murray.

The county medical examiner’s office released Murray’s identity on Monday and said he died of multiple gunshot wounds.

According to the sheriff’s office, Murray had been acting intoxicated near some children Saturday evening at an apartment building in Spokane Valley, and when deputies arrived, he fled to a homeless camp in a nearby wooded area.

A deputy caught up to Murray and said over the radio that Murray began making threats and had something in his possession, then the deputy reported that shots had been fired and called for medics, according to the sheriff’s office.

The deputy is on paid administrative leave but had not been publicly identified as of Monday.
