Numerica Credit Union offering scholarships to tackle student loan debt

Spokane Valley-based Numerica Credit Union is offering scholarships to recent college graduates to help them with student loan debt.

Numerica is offering two, $2,500 scholarships to graduates of an associate, bachelor’s or master’s degree program with an outstanding federal student loan. Applicants for the scholarship must be members of the credit union and not a previous recipient of Numerica scholarships.

Numerica has given more than $85,000 in student scholarships, but it’s a first for the credit union to award members who have completed a degree.

“The burden of student loan debt is a common challenge amongst our members – often impacting their financial well-being or ability to take meaningful steps in life, like purchasing a home or saving for retirement,” Kim Pearman-Gillman, senior vice president of corporate and community relations at Numerica, said in a statement. “We are committed to addressing this impact through financial counseling as well as this new and relevant scholarship.”

Scholarship applications are due by Nov. 30.

Numerica Credit Union, founded in 1937, has more than 152,000 members in Washington and Idaho. It holds more than $2.4 billion in assets.
