Homeless youth need support

The Oct. 30 Spokesman Review has an excellent, comprehensive article on our fellow homeless citizens. But it leaves me puzzled about one thing.

The CEO of Volunteers of America estimates “about 40% of the homeless come from eviction or leaving home due to gender issues.” This is not mentioned anywhere in the article even as a factor to be considered! What is the truth here? We need full, honest information in dealing with this difficult problem.

If people’s religious beliefs are a key issue, maybe meetings of pastors and congregations should be held to discuss this. In an earlier letter, I mentioned the value of National Geographic’s January 2017 issue on gender, which can be found in the libraries. The enlightenment of science and DNA discoveries should be a beacon to broaden our faith. Everyone is a child of God born on a spectrum of distribution.

The mat outside the front door should be a welcome in, not for an exit out. These young people above all need the support of love and family
