Prep girls soccer: Megan Cardenas’ two goals lead Mead to the 4A state tournament

Megan Cardenas scored her second goal in the 79th minute Saturday and Mead (15-4-0) defeated Richland (15-4-0) 4-3 in a District 8 4A girls soccer second-place match at Albi Stadium to advance to state.

Kamiakin 2, Mt. Spokane 1 (SO): Kate Christian buried the decisive penalty kick and the Braves eliminated the Wildcats (9-6-0) in a shootout in the District 8 3A second-place game at Lampson Stadium in Kennewick.

District 5/6/7 2A crossovers

Cheney 5, Othello 0: Mackenize Huotari and Jocelyn Cone both had a goal and an assist and the Blackhawks (15-3-0) shut out the visiting Huskies (6-7-0) to advance to state.

Ephrata 3, West Valley 2: Alyssa Amann scored, but the visiting Eagles (14-5-1) were eliminated by the Tigers (12-8-0).

District 6/7 1A crossovers

Freeman 1, Cashmere 0 (OT): Riley Hawley scored the winning goal in the 84th minute and the host Scotties (16-2-0) eliminated the Bulldogs (13-5-1). Freeman advanced to state.

Cascade (Leavenworth) 2, Deer Park 1: The Kodiaks (8-6-0) eliminated the visiting Stags (14-4-0).

District 6/7 2B crossovers

Davenport 6, Tonasket 1: Darby Soliday scored six goals and the visiting Gorillas (13-5-0) eliminated the Tigers (12-3-1). Davenport advanced to state.

Northwest Christian 5, Brewster 0: The Crusaders (11-4-0) eliminated the visiting Bears (11-8-0). Northwest Christian advanced to state.

Boys soccer

St. George’s 3, Riverside Christian 0: James Gunn scored twice and the visiting Dragons (10-3-0) shut out the Crusaders (9-6-0) in the District 5/6/7/9 2B/1B championship game. St. George’s advanced to state.
