Police identify man killed after being struck by car in Moran Prairie

UPDATED: Tue., Nov. 12, 2019

From staff reports

The man who died after he was struck by a car on the 4800 block of South Palouse Highway on Saturday has been identified as Gerald G. Schafer, 77.

Schafer died after he was struck at about 5:40 p.m. Saturday by a vehicle driven by a woman in the Moran Prairie area, according to Spokane police.

While the manner of death was determined by the Spokane County Medical Examiner to be accidental, police said that does not limit any legal charges than could be taken by a prosecutor.

Spokane Police Sgt. Kyle Yrigollen said Sunday that the man identified Tuesday as Schafer died of his injuries after he was taken to a hospital following the collision.

The female driver showed no signs of impairment at the time of the crash, Yrigollen said. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene during the preliminary investigation.
