Trust women

In response to “Abortions in U.S. fall to lowest since ‘73 (Sept. 19):

No matter where you stand on the issue of a woman’s right to control her own reproductive health, the latest study released by the Guttmacher Intitute should be heartening. The report states that the rate of abortion is falling in all parts of the country.

The study finds the main force behind the overall decline is not due to restricted access to abortion services, but in fact, increased access to contraception due to the Affordable Care Act. (Thanks Obama!)

Giving women the freedom over their own bodies to choose when and how to start a family means that we can do so when we are ready to, from a place of emotional and, let’s face it, financial stability. We deserve to be trusted with these decisions ourselves, instead of having the choice made for us.

In any case, the results of the study were clear. 57% of the decline occurred in the 18 states, plus D.C., that did not enact any new restrictions.
